Requesting banner odds from gumi?

So this will be quick but I'm interested. Anyone else wanna ask Gumi to post odds for adjusted "featured" banner? Not complaining here but last few banners it hasn't felt like "increased rate" at all if anything this banner feels like I'm pulling in a FFT banner, alma, alma, gaf, gaf, alma.
Dunno I sent in a request stating even my state lotto posts odds attached to a Gambling addiction hotline number. Maybe enough ask they get warned from their legal Dept. (Side note: really not a ppd post, I usually have amaizing luck pulling just figured it really should be a thing considering the amount of money we all spend on basically rolling the dice)

The gambling addiction hotline should be a 1-900 number where only 1 out of every 10 operators actually tries to help you.

1-800 hotline number on lottery tickets for gambling addicts but not on alcohol bottles for alcoholics?

Just wondering what's the reason for that? Seems like a good idea.

What should I be aware of with my mother?

Hello,
So, to make the back story to this as short and sweet as possible, I grew up with a single mom in poverty. After I moved out, my mom had a heart issue that caused several severe strokes and brain bleeds. She was moved into a assisted living, then a senior apartment. She is surviving off of disability payments.
Now for the reason why I am posting. Recently, as an American, my mother and I both recieved the stimulus check of $600. She told me she was going to put it all towards bills. A few days later, she asked me to buy her something at the store because she was all out of money. It didn't click then, but just tonight I asked to see her phone, because I wanted to look at her emails. Thankfully she isn't very tech savvy, and didn't delete any emails. If she did, she barley deleted any. I saw that since the 28th of last month, when she got her payment, within 3 days she spent all of her remaining money on a casino app. Then, she got her $600, and a few days later, yet again, out of money. She is almost $700 negative in her account, and she has been trying to make purchases in app everyday since she blew it all, each time getting declined. In 1 day she spent over 300 dollars in game.
I did some research, changed her email password to something only I know, blocked all in app purchases (which side note, if she is smart enough it's super easy to change the password again wothout knowing the new password....thanks a lot Google for your supreme security. /s) I then brought it up to her and she got sad. I found a phone number to call National Counselon Problem Gambling. I will be calling that in the morning. I know they're open 24/7 but I am quite tired and want to head to sleep very soon. I am not sure how long that call may take.
My question for everyone dealing with or know someone dealing with this gambling addiction, what are some things I can try and look out for to help prevent future problems, or signs, or anything I may not realize?
She is disabled, so driving is not a thing. She doesn't know how to do phone betting on things like sports, or anything like that. Like I mentioned earlier, she is currently several hundred dollars negative in her account (why tf did her bank not decline after the 1st purchase that brought her negative, let alone the 2nd, or 3rd, etc? She only can buy up to $100 packages in app, so she didn't make a $700+ purchase in app. I have browsed all the recent Google Play receipts) so she cannot uber to a casino. The one thing I am a little worried about is suicide, which I am taking precautions on, but that's not this subreddits topic.
So, not to repeat myself too much, but what are things I should look out for? Behaviors, struggles, ways to help other than the Gambling hotline, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Edit: I was so tired last night when posting this, didn't realize that the NSW was an Australian number. When I went to call it, it was 1 digit shorter than I am used to. Looking closer into the website, it seems to be only for Australians. We are Americans.

Mental Health Resources for Students (Compilation)

Hi everyone,
I am starting to get extremely alarmed by the magnitude of students struggling with mental health issues this semester, whether it be stress, anxiety, lack of motivation, depression, substance use, feeling generally shitty, or anything else that could be caused or exacerbated by online school in a pandemic.
I don't think that the university does enough to advertise the mental health support it offers students, but there are resources available.
If you feel like you are struggling, even a little bit, please sit down and chat about it with someone. Family, friends, or any of the resources below. You are not alone. You are not weak for struggling. There are many many people struggling just as much as you. The Carleton discord server has tons of people who would be willing to hop on voice chat for a conversation about mental well-being, myself included. With the winter, cold weather, and exams approaching, stress and poor mental health is only going to get worse unless you get help.
Below is every resource I could find that the university offers for mental health (free). If you have anymore, please post a comment below and I will add it to the list. I think it is important to note that many of these services (see general resources) will totally be fine with you calling just for supportive human interaction. If you even think you may benefit from a chat, you should do it. Mental health doesn’t have to be an emergency to matter.
Mental health is serious. Poor mental health weakens the immune system (in a pandemic!!), shortens your lifespan, and makes you chronically ill. So does loneliness. It can escalate quickly. PLEASE act on it.

Day 36 - Posts about Ending It

Today is day 36 and apart from having difficulties with my bead string (I didn't plan on 7 and 5 overlapping, 35 threw me for a color loop!), everything has been going pretty well. I continue to work the steps, I continue to work toward recovery and while nervous about temptations that the new year will bring, I can only keep my focus on today. The choices that I am offered. Everyone gives out scratch off tickets as stocking stuffers and I'm trying to prepare; I am to give them all to my husband.
I'm seeing a lot of posts tonight about people feeling that they've hit rock bottom and it's just not worth it to carry on.
I'm a 37f and this my...oh god...it feels like one millionth time quitting gambling. I always thought that I could use my willpower to stop. If I was worth anything and I was stronger then I could.just.stop. I have a history of severe and recurrent depression, anxiety and panic attacks, gambling addiction in the family. I've always gambled since I've been able. Hell, I remember when my grandfather died my brother and I drove to another state and gambled for hours. Pure escapism. Like everyone on here has said. I was screwed because I won. I would go with my parents or on my own time and I'd win a couple hundred dollars.
I'd walk away and buy myself a new game system, or tons of books, a guitar, whatever impulsive and expensive toy I wanted. I make about $2000 every two weeks with my job. This way I would make $2000 in a couple of hours. Bulletproof.
I kept growing, I settled into a career of being, of all things, a therapist. I could help others, but not myself. I'd visit my parents and they'd hand my hundred dollar bills that they had won the previous day. Sure they forgot my birthday one year because they were gambling, but that money was nice. When they went I hated gambling. When I went it was great. I got married, I had kids. My freedom became significantly less.
I turned to local gambling at little slot joints. I knew once I crossed that threshold there would be no going back, but I did it anyway. They had small jackpots of $500 (that I even thought that was small is silly) and you would never hit them unless you had max bet...max bet it was. I'd win $80 and be able to walk away riding high for that week. Then I started withdrawing my daily ATM limit, $600. Then I'd sneak away from work, from kids, my husband. He would question the large withdrawals and I would bullshit him. He found out and we'd fight. I started to wrack up debt, see my family less often, I'd sneak away in the middle of the night to get money to spend the next day, telling myself that I'd just win it all back. I would sometimes and still leave further in the hole. Then $4 bets were introduced. The numbers grew higher and higher. My husband would find out, we'd fight and he'd grow more resentful. I was a ball of anxiety and fear. But if I could just hit it big. It was never big enough.
I did something that endangered my husband's credit. He threatened to have me arrested. To take my kids and never come back. I have always had suicidal ideas, but never acted. I walked to the river, I can't swim. It was 1 AM and cold. I walked out onto a dock in the 18 foot deep river. I just had to take that step. I thought of my kids. I couldn't leave them. I struggled. My husband called he knew what I was doing, where I'd gone. I sobbed, I tried to hide it, but he knew. He made me promise to walk away or he would wake the kids an get me. I walked away, I called the gambling hotline.
It wasn't super helpful, but it was something. My husband found this subreddit when he was trying to find any way to make sense of this madness that he could not comprehend.
My first day sober was 11/7/20. I've taken steps. I live my life to beat that addiction to find the peace. Money isn't peace. Money makes things easier, sure, but you can always find a way to get money. Now I'm earning my money a.d our bank account is creeping up, despite dropping down the entire time I was gambling. I've been able to buy gifts and not stress about the damage I had done. I'm going to decrease my sleeping pill tonight, I don't need as high of a dose anymore.
The point is, it's an addiction. Your thoughts right now exist to keep you gambling. It's a disorder, they are disordered thoughts. They tell you that there is nothing but gambling and failure. That's a lie. It gets better. It really does. Put in the work, nose to the grindstone. It'll only change if you make it.
Keep it going.

~ Feedback ~

As always, I received lots of great feedback, both in your survey responses and in the thread itself. A heartfelt thank you to all participants for your encouragements and criticisms - these surveys wouldn’t be where they are without your feedback. But it’s not all serious; feedback messages also included:

  • Powercreeped Heroes, a song parody by u/juuldude
  • #8CorrinAltsPlease #BringBackGlassesAzura #DemoteGenOneUnits #JusticeForAnna #GatekeeperForCYL4 #JusticeForCanas #Micaiah4Smash #BlueLions
  • “Greetings, survey creator! Nothing to report! _
  • “I look forward to the next Nils quote. Those are priceless.”
  • “I have finally made it back. You thought me defeated, but you were wrong. Any day now (probably a month from now) you will all see the vengeance of my boy Nils on the far fetched heroes banner. You didn't think we needed another dragon dancer, and you were right! We NEED a dragon bard. He plays a LUTE (and no, not the girl). Most of you probably don't even know what that is! How cool! Just wait til he is a cavalry movement higher than armor BST monster that chews you up online. Oh yeah, it's coming.”
  • “Thank you for changing your flair to Norne, now I don't have to see Azura's face when I click on your surveys. Looks like you're taking a step in the right direction. I'm expecting a Roy flair one day. Roy mains rise up!”
  • “Alright this is it. Within the next month, we could have Jill in FEH. I’ve been saving for this moment for almost a year now, and honestly, I don’t know what I’ll do if she isn’t added. It’s more of a question of when Farfetched will be rather than if Jill will be on it, but still, I’m terrified at the thought of her not being included on the banner. If she isn’t, then I swear I’m gonna drop this game. Please just give me my red hair wyvern waifu IS” – Godspeed
  • “I thought for sure I had just filled one of these out and was briefly convinced you had started posting these sooner. No, it's just somehow been a really fast month.” – It has been a really fast month, but this is also a much shorter gap than the others recently (~1.5 month gap compared to the ~3 month gaps between surveys earlier in the year)
  • “Why did you not give me the option to submit to Grima? I wish to submit to Grima. I live for being able to submit to Grima.”
  • “It's fun doing these surveys, I like looking through the results but I think the question variety should be increased, for example, I think you should ask more questions about the good characters in the game, like Myrrh, the best character in the franchise. Myrrh ticks all the boxes of a good character: 1) Is a dragon 2) Strong character 3) Absolutely adorable 4) Appeared in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones 5) Purple Hair. I would definitely answer every question on a survey like that.” – lol
  • “Nino is the sweetest girl in Fire Emblem. It is an undeniable fact. A universal truth. Self-evident. All who disagree are obstacles to be crushed, without exception.”
  • “When you think about it, Anna is the type of person who would take pictures of herself in various outfits to sell for money. Thus, it is highly logical that Anna would have an alt by now because that’s how she would make money, but she just doesn’t have one. Therefore, I propose that the Anna in this universe is not actually Anna, but rather some imposter, likely another Anna from the Lif and Thrasir universe, sent here to spy on the order of heroes. She could actually wield the Breidablik, but pretends to not do so, summoning Kiran as a puppet, secretly sabotaging the Breidablik whenever Kiran pulls, leading to only 3 star and 4 stars appearing. Coupled with Kiran’s horrible gambling addiction, this plan eventually steals all the wealth of the Askran Kingdom. Kiran sells all the legendary weapons for more orbs, including the only weapon that could defeat Hel: Axe of Virility. That finally leads to the downfall of the Askran kingdom and Hel’s demolition of this world. Book 3 comes to and end with Kiran’s death, and book 4 starts with Kiran getting isekai’d back into Earth and trying to cure his gambling addiction through calling, for some reason, suicide prevention hotlines.”
  • And greetings from the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (best of luck to you, friend!), Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Vietnam, Alaska, Belhalla, Garreg Mach Monastery, Enbarr, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, the Leicester Alliance, and Alois’ facial hair.

~ Closing Remarks ~

If you missed out on responding to this survey when it was available, consider subscribing to FEHSurveys. Many users express concerns over missing out on new surveys, so this subreddit serves as a place to organize FE:H-related surveys, make new releases more visible, and make it easier for users to see when surveys are active.

Thanks again to everyone who participated! I hope you find the results interesting, and if there’s anything else you think can be discovered from the data, let me know and I’ll do my best to oblige!

Spike In Call For Help From UK Problem Gamblers During Lockdown

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 47%. (I'm a bot)
Their monthly interactions with problem gamblers have risen from roughly 30 a month to around 1,000 during the period of April to June.
The number of problem gamblers who called the GMA's hotline with suicidal thoughts each day during that period also rose dramatically, with a peak of five a day.
Hickey said that they were prepared to see an increase in problem gambling due to the coronavirus lockdown but they did not expect to witness such a significant spike in problem gambling related issues.
There has been a lot of attention on the rise of problem gambling in the last few months and this could help problem gamblers overcome the stigma of seeking help.
According to Hickey, problem gambling was commonly believed to be a made-up disease decades ago, which prevented problem gamblers from admitting their problem.
Ladbrokes owner GVC reported last week that their net revenues for the second quarter declined by 22%, but their online revenues rose by 20%. The UK Gambling Commission found that sports bets fell by 31% during the quarantines, while other gambling games rose: online slot machine use surged by 25%, online poker by 38%, and betting on virtual sports simulations by 40%. Online casino games have been tagged by gambling addiction experts as more addictive than sports betting.

The HUT Casino

I repost this every few months to try to help those spending more than they'd like on HUT. I haven't posted this in a solid three months and I just got pinged by someone linking it and I see TOTY is approaching so I think it's good to talk about now.
You can be a whale of a spender, free to play, or anything in between and that's fine as long as you're okay with it and it's not negatively affecting your life. Some people would rather rip packs to improve a team they'll use all year instead of blowing $30 on a night out at a bar or movie or whatever. The other side to that is that I've personally seen people spend over $10,000 in a single year on coin sales and over $800 on a single card. I've seem people sell cards for rent money. The important thing is you know where you're at, what you want, and most importantly what you're buying.
Facts:
Here's what you can do to frame it correctly in your brain
  • Realize the hit of dopamine you get ripping a pack is a thing engineered to make you want to open another pack and that getting you addicted is a huge priority for EA since they make SO MUCH MONEY on microtransactions. They don't feel bad for getting you addicted, you being addicted is the goal.
  • Remove your stored credit card from your account. This will force you to type in the numbers if you decide you want a pack. This extra time gives your brain a minute to ponder the decision.
  • Better yet you can buy a PSN card BEFORE you start, which has the value you want to spend.
  • Best is probably buying coins, then buying packs with those. More bang for your buck and a clear stopping point.
  • Keep track of how much you spend as you go through the year. Make yourself write your new purchase on this sheet before you buy, and make yourself view the yearly total. $5 and here and $5 there add up over time
  • All this content will be GONE in a year or less. On average, even if you sell coins, you're likely to get maybe 5-10% back depending on when you sell
  • If you're having a hard time not getting excited about packs and browse from a full browser, hide pack pull flaired posts.
  • If you have a gambling problem, get help. 1-800-522-4700 is the number for the national gambling hotline in the US. Here are some Canadian resources. I've heard of people not making rent but buying packs, and I've heard people blow over $2,000 on packs. This shit can get real, fast.
I think it's important that people understand the realities before buying packs. It's like a raffle/lottery, sure you could win a fancy McDavid (or a smaller prize), but you're way more likely to get something that won't even help your team let alone fit on your team. Also if it was a lottery they'd at least have to disclose your odds.
If you're determined to get that new player you get a much better return buying coins from a triple checked regular seller (/hutcoinsales). You have to be sure who you're talking to, and that they've been reliable for a very long time, but at least you're paying for more than unrealized hope. I'd say on average in my experience you get at least 3x the value buying coins than you receive on average buying packs. Coins are hard to buy at the beginning of the year though FYI.
Here's a good video about microtransactions and their history, if you feel like being angry today
Upvote it or don't, karma is not the point. Hope all is well with all of you. If something is outdated let me know, I haven't bought the game this year. From post to post I try to edit this post to make it a bit more concise or cover things I missed previously. You may or may not remember me, but I was a mod here for about four years starting a few weeks after the sub got created and left because it was taking too many hours out of my day and that was mostly spent enforcing rules and dealing with jerks which isn't the best way to spend a life. I'm doing well and miss the sub, hope you're all getting something positive out of the sub.

Gambling and Addiction

Taking a quick break from posting pulls from EA employees and gameplay that somewhat resembles football, I'm going to touch on an issue that can impact anyone in our community. An addiction to gambling is a very real issue and in-game mechanics, such as those presented within MUT, can quickly lead players into spending their income in an attempt for gratification both on the field and through their posting of "FIRE PULLS" to our community. While this can be a fun and wonderful outlet in the day, it can also lead to some players developing a very real and very dangerous addiction to gambling. Below are some common symptoms associated with gambling that have been geared towards our community.

All of these are potential signs of an addiction to gambling, and if you fall into any of them and would like to chat with a professional who can steer you into a road for a brighter tomorrow use any of the free contacts and informative websites below.

(1-800-522-4700) Is the National Problem Gambling Hotline and has call centers for all 50 States, Canada, and the US Virgin Islands. Help is available 24/7 and is 100% confidential. You can both call or text the number, or reach them through www.ncpgambling.org/chat

(1-800-662-4357) Is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and is a wonderful outlet that is free, confidential, and available 24/7 365. Both Español and English are available.

Hope this can help any members of the community that can't see any light at the end of the dark tunnel of gambling addiction. If anyone else is struggling through mental health problems or anything where they'd like someone to just hear them out, feel free to send me a message anytime.

The Wild Hunt: Urban Style

Part 4 of 4
**** * ****
When I arrived at the station marker on the street above, I dug out my phone. Crap! It was smashed. The Beefinator had weighed… I dunno, a ton? I looked around but saw no signs of a clock. It had to be getting late… early… whatever, though. I picked a direction and started to peddle. I started to make my way back toward home. I was pretty sure that The Hunt would be waiting for me somewhere along the way. Maybe they’d gone ahead. I was still a little shaken and my legs hurt terribly. It was hard to pedal but probably best to keep the blood circulating. If The Hunt caught me, it’d be flowing… maybe spraying…
I was in the middle part of downtown, where the buildings rose to incredible heights and left the street level in perpetual shadows, except for the streetlamps that came on after dusk; more light at night than during full daylight. I stayed on the roadway, there were too many huddled lumps sleeping on the sidewalks and in doorways or on grates. Likely homeless people or addicts but after what happened with the last shapeless lump of a person, I wasn’t going to risk it. I was still coming down from the adrenaline high and my mind wandered a little as I considered the beauty and wealth on display in this part of town. The sheer effort that had gone into raising these structures spoke to the pinnacles of human ingenuity. Yet the broken beings who lay around the bottom of each glass tower spoke to how far our species could plummet…
…My thoughts on contrasts and symmetry scattered as I noted a tent shelter over a grate that emanated steam; four figures emerged from the tent that would barely have held one of them. One sported a pair of goatish looking horns. Another stalked on four limbs, the front two longer than they should be, like a giraffe or gorilla, only its head was a nightmare of short spikes and too many eyes. There were two others in the dark, all sharp and pointy-looking... I tore forward and they trampled along towards me, emitting a lesser sound of hooves and hard feet than did the entire Hunt. I geared up as quickly as possible but I already knew that this race was lost and there were no more bullets, silver or otherwise…
The slavering mini-horde started to reach forth claws and one of them with a raven’s beak screeched eagerly. The chill was pressing me toward another shudder. If that happened, it was definitely over; my bones couldn’t rattle and ride at the same time. Then, another, “first time” event in my life: I was happy to see the police; a cruiser was stopped at the end of the block, hopefully an occupied cruiser. I cut in close and slapped the hood of the car as I turned right onto Avenue F... “F” for FUBAR I thought in my panic. The small pack of hunters scrambled to make the turn with me while they avoided the car. I caught a glance of number four, a large hound-man… thing, with a bony white face and long red ears. I was nearing the end of my ability to go any faster and they began to regain the few steps they’d lost in the turn. I guessed that hooves and hard feet tended to slide on smooth pavement but quickly recovered…
Then the siren whooped and wailed and the red and blue lights flashed with uncanny brightness. Ultra-bright headlights pierced the shadows and the Po-Po were on the way to the rescue! Never thought I’d see the day that I needed somebody, especially… them. It worked, the four-pack of beast-people split and veered off in four directions, all away from the police car and more importantly away from me. I stopped and panting, raised my hands. Dang! Why hadn’t I ditched Sony’s little pocket rocket? Then again, maybe a jail cell would be the safest place... I quickly shed that notion as I recalled the confined space on the train car. I could only imagine what would happen in a cramped jail cell or interview room in total darkness, with no weapons…
The officer approached, shined an all too bright flashlight in my eyes and told me I could put down my hands. “So what was all that about, a cute Halloween prank?” he asked and raised his eyebrows; his tone was more inquisitive than angry. Maybe I’d get a chance to lie my arse… uh, tell him a good story. In the ‘hood he’d have had a WTF moment, followed by handcuffing me for safety; only then would he have spoken and none too gently. Downtown officers definitely had a different approach.
“Sir, did you see those… people… chasing me? I just needed to get your attention, I was scared.” I used those innocent eyes and the tone of a young, good citizen type in fear for his safety. The last was easy, I was still miserably afraid and shaking.
He smiled. “I’ll be honest with you young man, I was typing a report and didn’t see anything until you got my attention. I saw some shadows for a minute, maybe people running. Why do you think they would be chasing you?”
I looked around haplessly for a moment and stuttered out that I didn’t know. I used the goofy manner of speaking of my peers in suburbia, ending each sentence with an upward inflection and stammering. Then I clenched the, “lost puppy” routine with a dumb generational query, “Um, can I like, call my mom?”
“In a minute kid. Look, what are you doing downtown after three in the morning? Are you on something?”
I tried to look offended, “Um, no sir, I like, don’t use illegal drugs? They mess up my prescription ones. I was at a Halloween party with friends and I like fell asleep? I have to get up early and take a test, so I’m trying to get home. Um, we live in Wexford Condos?” I knew it was a gamble but I had no idea what The Hunt was doing while the officer assisted what he assumed was a good… no, a wealthy good citizen. Wexford was high end and convenient to downtown. He was taking his time, hoping to avoid a complaint by someone who may have influence. He was also taking my time, we needed to wrap it up so I could go.
“Look, maybe you should call your mom. Downtown can be dangerous at night. The street people aren’t evil or anything but some of them have mental disorders or are addicts or both for that matter. They don’t like intruders.” He held up a hand to forestall the objection he assumed I would have at being called an intruder. “Not calling you anything sir, I just meant from their perspective, they often consider the area to be their home and can be… er, territorial.”
I nodded stupidly and let my mouth hang open a little. “Um, I like think I’m close enough to get home okay? I think your lights and siren prolly scared everybody… um…uh…” I trailed off like the “super-genius” I wanted him to assume I was.
He thought for a moment, decided to take the bait, and then nodded in a relieved way, “Okay, sir, please be careful and keep your eyes open. Be safe.” He made his escape to his patrol car while I stuttered out appreciation. Another first, he’d called me ‘sir’; twice! I made a mental note to spend more time in downtown. As I pedaled on up Avenue FUBAR, I deliberately rode a little awkwardly, like a dumbass, helpless college kid who couldn’t wait to get home to mommy. I turned left, the direction I needed to go. The cop, if he still watched, would assume I’d decided to go over a few blocks and ride home along 6th Street.
I rounded the corner and looked to my left at the mirrored plate glass of one of the gargantuan buildings. I wondered briefly whether the four Hunters would coalesce again and get me. I shivered and by this point, I couldn’t tell whether it was the approach of The Hunt or just fear, fatigue, and November chill. Then I saw my reflection as I rolled quickly ahead. In the reflection there were shadowy figures behind me! I automatically dug into the pedals and geared up as quickly as possible. I tore ahead at full speed into the narrow trail of light left by the streetlights. Were they dimming around me? Probably, I was definitely caught this time, I was already nearing the last of the monumental glass towers and would now be travelling toward the lesser structures where less prosperous enterprises were conducted.
I could hear the distant rumble and the baying of hounds and I knew that the final chase had begun. The Path of Light had not been a way of salvation for me but a means to drive me to where The Hunters wanted me to be! The Shadows and inconvenient obstacles were like beaters that frightened the prey and led it to the killing grounds. I rode and rode, I didn’t look around, I just kept going all out. The Hunt should have closed on me but They hadn’t. As I crossed another large four-way intersection, I dug out and tossed the last of my nails over my shoulder; I was cold and I could hear Them behind me but all I could do was ride…
**** * ****
I eventually had to start dodging crap in the street. There were piles of uncollected trash on corners and dumpsters were left in plain view at the heads of alleyways. I narrowly missed the carcass of a dead rat in the middle of the road… I was back in the ‘hood! I don’t know why I had the momentary thrill. Perhaps I was simply happy that I’d die on familiar ground.
The best laid plans of mice and men often get FUBARed, at least in the ‘hood. This was truly a night of, “firsts” for me, I was thrilled when I saw a certain luxury car prowl toward the next intersection. There was no mistaking the owner as it was painted a hideous shade of purple, with some jaguar-style big cat spots painted in bands along the bottom of each side as trim. I’d heard that the purple implied something stupid about royal colors… no idea what type of royalty Jaguar could be; Sultan of Shit-stains? Maybe one of those priest guys who ripped out people’s hearts at the top of pyramids down south of the border… for now, I saw a royal chance to shift the focus of The Hunt.
I let out a loud whistle and yelled out, “Hey Jaguar: Fuck youuuu… beeahhhhtch!!!” Then I turned to follow the car. I only hoped that he wouldn’t have the stereo up too loud to hear me. Something got his attention though and he came to an abrupt halt. I almost smashed into the rear bumper. I fended off the driver side of his car with my right foot. The move produced a satisfying thump and scrape and left a smudge and slight dent in the driver side door. That would set him on my tail!
Unfortunately, I could no more outrun Jaguar in his jaguar than I could The Hunt… but when I’d recognized the ‘hood, I recognized where in the ‘hood we were; right smack in the heart of Jaguar’s block! Right in line with my nefarious plan… just wish I’d planned a more specific end game… I knew where I wanted to go but not exactly what to do when we all arrived. I cut through a narrow alleyway and saw him come to a halt at the head of it and well behind me. The rumble and roar of The Hunt faded a little and I dodged through a few more narrow ways, heedless of lights or shadows. Obviously word had gotten around as I’d hoped. Jaguar and his crew were likely looking all over for me and had been since my visit with Sony, the Prince of Arse-tards.
Unlike Sony and some of the other stellar leaders of the various trashy gangs, Jaguar liked to drive himself, though he kept a bodyguard with him, one of Big Rey’s cousins, “Oso-Diablo” (Demon-Bear); everybody called him, “OD”. He wasn’t quite as big as Big Rey but he was considerably smarter and therefore more dangerous. Plus, you know, he was alive and Big Rey… I had to grin for just a second… I hoped that a similar end awaited the loathsome lecher; he was known for doping and raping girls, so his name was not just initials but his sole mode of seduction, “OD”.
Jag…off must have figured out where I was headed because he wasn’t too far behind when I used my bike as a stepstool and scrambled over the sheet metal, junkyard wall at, “La Selva”. This was Jaguar’s lair and an earthly horror; a fitting, “jungle” in which to end the Hunt. Jaguar and his toadies had a taste for torture and blood sports. It was an arena where he hosted dog and cock fights and where he used animals to tear apart some of the humans he wished to torture. He disguised it as a boxing and wrestling arena and had rings and matches for those. The events took place in an aircraft-hangar sized barn inside the junkyard walls. It was decorated with murals, statues of meso-American Gods, and gaudy crap from Mexico and points south to give the image of a wild jungle ruin. The junkyard was real; a chop shop provided some extra income. Yet the real money was on forcing animals, two-legged or four, to tear one another apart and on side gigs selling drugs and sex to the attendees. Jaguar wasn’t just any old turd, he was a truly evil pile of reeking shit!
I heard his car pull up to the gates and saw his headlights penetrate the numerous gaps and gouges in the metal fencing. I was headed to the dog pens inside the barn. I was desperate to release some hunting hounds of my own, anything to help fend off The Hunt for just a little longer. I passed through a line of cages that were set high off the ground and was greeted by the indignant squawks of his prized fighting roosters. As I rounded a corner inside the large barn-like arena building, I felt something snag my hoodie and tear at the cloth. My heart nearly stopped! It had to be some ghoulish creature from The Hunt and it had caught me…
After the initial tug though, the, “claw” I assumed had seized me, tore loose from the garment and as it glinted and tinkled against others like it, I saw that it was a set of fighting spurs for the birds that hung from a support beam at the end of the row of cages. I snatched up two pairs of the razor-sharp metal spikes and placed a set of blades between and around the middle fingers of each of my hands. I had no other weapons, I might as well play, Wolverine. Silly as it was at a time like that, I grinned, and thought, Cool, at least I can go out fighting like a superhero.
The kennels were on the other side of the arena and I could hear either Jaguar and OD or Members of The Hunt rattling around inside the arena building; probably both! It didn’t matter, both parties wanted my blood and to revel in my painful death. I ran / hobbled directly across the fighting pit; it was just a section of sand surrounded by a low timber wall, high enough for scumbag spectators to lean on and watch as living beings tore one another to bloody shreds. I was tired and sore and needed to get where I was going while I could still function. I’d passed the halfway point across the pit when WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! Shots rang out from behind me. Sand and wood splinters from the arena floor and the wall ahead spalled back towards me. I leapt, planted my hands on the wall and managed to clear it at a run. I felt a tug and a searing hot pain along the top of my right shoulder as the gunfire continued to hammer my eardrums. FUB.. Fuck!!! He shot me!
I ducked and ran bent forward into the kennels. I had hoped he would stop shooting since he wouldn’t want to hurt his prized fighting dogs. He did. He valued them far more than the life of a punk teen who was no more than a crooked delivery boy. The gunshot that hit me was only a graze but it stung and hurt and bled like crazy; felt like it had grazed the top of the shoulder bone and left a trail of fire. As I passed the cages, the dogs leapt up and snapped in fury at my intrusion and at the smell of fresh gore. There were no barks, just low, throaty, rumbling growls of hostility. I pulled open the latches to each cage and near the end of the row, I unlatched and tore open the door to the last cage. I pulled it open and used it as a barricade. If they couldn’t readily get to me, I hoped that they would go after Jaguar and OD. The canines would have held no love for either man as they’d each teased and tortured the animals to, “train” them to aggression.
As many times as my hopes had been dashed, I expected to have my fingers that clutched at the wire of the cage gnawed off to the knuckle. However, my Wolverine claws saved me from that. I felt a momentary pang of sympathy when one of the dogs bit a spur and let out a yelp as it tore open the inside of his mouth; despite the threat, I felt bad for the dog, he hadn’t asked for this. Dang! I’m getting soft, I thought briefly. That was when Jaguar called out from the front of the rows of cages. “This pen is for fighting dogs, not coyote bitches! You stay in here and my pit fighters will tear you into little coyote fajitas. It’s Dia de los Muertes you know? Day of the fucking dead, bitch! You about to join ‘em but slow-like…” He paused and both hulking morons peered into the shadows that had at last worked to my advantage.
The dogs had settled and gone strangely quiet. It was odd that they hadn’t turned on one another but the other side of their primal nature was at work; dogs favored working as a pack…They turned as one toward their erstwhile, “masters”. A few of them whimpered and whined for a moment and they shuffled and jockeyed for position, the more aggressive ones towards the front. Jaguar pushed past OD and yelled at the nascent pack, “Get the fuck outta my way! Worthless fuckers! I was gonna feed him to you but now I’ll tear him up myself. Coyote, I’m gonna wrap you in burning tires and we’ll take bets on how long you can scream before you die. Then I’ll feed you to the dumbass dogs!” With that, he lashed out his foot to kick the first alpha in range but the monster Pit Bull mix dodged and clamped its teeth around Jaguar’s shin bones and proceeded to tug and shake his head in fury. Jaguar hit the ground grunting and cursing and the pack swarmed onto him, each taking out his anger on this thing that had caused them so much pain and misery.
OD stepped forward and raised his pistol. He started shooting randomly into the pack of fighting dogs and was rewarded with a few yelps and some of the animals fled and blended into the… oh, crap! Rapidly chilling shadows… The bolder beasts turned on him after his pistol was empty and he decided to make a tactical retreat. Too late to save himself but he’d reasoned out what to do. Way to use your brain Dr. Carson… er, Oh Dee, as in, ‘Odious Dumbass’!
The dog pack tore out after him and the entire rippling, snarling, screaming in terror and agony mass went over the arena wall and into the fighting pit. Then the sounds became truly unpleasant. I pushed the cage door away from me and rose to flee in turn, in a different direction. I made it to the front of the kennels and had started around the walls of the arena to take the long way back to the rooster pens when the Sounds arose… The now familiar chill spread from deep within the recesses of my body and I had to stop while my bones shuddered and rebelled against the icy grip of soul-deep dread. It was over. The Hunt had arrived. I heard the grisly pounding, snapping and clashing, baying, snarling, howling, and chittering laughter of pure devilish delight as the Shadows filled the fighting pit. I knew that the hooves and hard feet would be splattered with OD’s blood. They would have to visit a clinic, that dude definitely had diseases, my mind insanely chattered as it always seemed to do under stress.
I clenched my fists into balls and raised them along with my feeble claws. No doubt the Lord of The Hunt would pause to laugh. The Shadows coalesced into individual figures, each more hideous and lethal in nature than the last. The hounds bayed and snarled and the enormous antler crown rose above all the others. The Voice, a thousand voices and One rumbled like thunder… “So near to the dawning Sun that would succor and save you little mortal. You have given us a merry chase and you even managed to bring down one of our finest Hunters. The Herne chose well for the Samhain Hunt…”
I stood there gaping like a fool and trembling in near panic. My eyes bulged with incomprehension. I worked my jaws but no sound emitted. It couldn’t, because no rational thoughts could form that needed to be given voice.
“Uurrrrgh…” The Many-Horned Lord rumbled in frustration at my mortal inadequacy. “You fought bravely and fled cleverly. You have successfully hidden. If you so choose, you may join Us in place of he whom you slew. You will be permitted to add aspects of a natural creature to your own. Perhaps those of your sobriquet, ‘Coyote’. You will then be mortal only while on The Hunt and facing True Prey. Otherwise you will live and remain eternally strong and youthful. Consider it carefully. This is a great honor We offer; mortals always seem to crave eternal life. What is your answer?”
Wow! These guys had really lost touch with mortals. Eternal life but as a thing? A monster? Who would want that? Then it dawned on me… scumbags like Sony and Jaguar would. Others of a similar bent would jump at the chance to live forever, all the while causing misery to others… it would take staggering hubris… I started to answer, trying to determine a way to decline the, “honor” and still manage to avoid being eaten. The Leader of the Hunt hadn’t mentioned alternatives to acceptance… As I opened my mouth to doom myself, a new sound arose…
…the crowing of a lone rooster. It let out it’s hoarse, screeching call once more and then others joined with their own raucous calls to announce that dawn had arrived.
The Antlers shifted as the great head cocked in the direction of the noise. “Dawn!” He announced. “The Hunt has ended. You have survived mortal. You will not be hunted again; your life is once more your own. Yet the offer still stands and you have not given an answer.” As He rumbled out His pronouncement, the Shadows lifted and the Hunting Horde resolved into a colorful array of Beings in many forms. They all appeared less sinister and most revealed themselves to be strikingly beautiful. The Antlers of the Lord spread gleaming, golden with their own internal light. He appeared as a golden skinned man with flowing hair and beard that shone in the light. When I observed their True Forms, the enticement to join Them became a temptation… terrible and beautiful all at once. I revised my earlier thoughts, trash like Sony and Jaguar would have the hubris to want to be immortal but these Beings would never have accepted them. The Lord of The Hunt was truly honoring me… this was the prize for surviving the long night... for being offered as a sacrifice by, “The Herne?!”…
I was glad that I had done some research, “Great Lord of The Hunt and All Wild Things, I am honored beyond measure, yet I must decline. The mortal world and form still has appeal for me. I wish you success in future Hunts but I must with greatest respect decline.” At this I bowed my head and focused on a lump in the dirt in front of me, just a mushy, dirt-covered mass. I stayed that way for a while as the cocks crowed and my heart soared with the sounds. When I finally raised my countenance toward the towering figure, He was gone. They were all gone and the silence was stunning. Only the rusty calls of the former fighting birds remained.
I reached the rooster pens and opened them as I had the dog cages. The dogs had apparently made a hasty retreat when The Hunt arrived. I was concerned that the birds would take to fighting, so I opened each cage and let the occupant flee before opening the next. A few of the roosters would not leave the cages. I didn’t dare reach inside, just left the doors opened. I decided that I’d call Animal Welfare or maybe a rescue outfit to come take the lot. I didn’t normally think of calling authorities or anyone for that matter but I didn’t know any other way to help them. The animals had saved my life, I owed them. As for the girls, the sex slaves… maybe there was some hotline to call. Somebody had to care what happened to them.
I made my way to the gates and around the wall to where my bike still faithfully leaned. I passed Jaguar’s Jaguar along the way. I was too tired to kick it anymore, though a fresh wave of hatred for him rose my hackles and restored a modicum of energy. Besides, with a decent paint job it would be a top-notch ride. I thought about it for a moment but I knew that the paperwork to make the thing legal just wouldn’t be worth it. I knew a fence but despite the profit it would bring, it just wasn’t worth the risk and hassle. Instead, I collected my bike and climbed aboard but the gouge on top of my shoulder screamed when I put weight on it as I gripped the handlebars. I’d have to stop and dig out my first aid kit…
I finished the patch, all the while contemplating the fact that, “The Herne” had put me forward as True Prey and I considered what, if anything I should do about that. I was sure he had reasons. Maybe they’d discovered the theft from Mrs. Herne’s jewelry box or maybe it was just some family relation he had to The Hunt. The problem required thought of which I was not currently able. So I climbed aboard my bike and slowly, with creaking joints and aching, exhausted body, I pedaled toward home.
As I left the property of La Selva, I noted the pink and orange rays of dawn emerging from the perpetual haze of the city. I heard the sounds of traffic and people stirring. Real people, the ‘hood rats and gang turds were either holed up in their dens or on their way to doing so. I thought maybe it was time to do something else; live somewhere else; be something else; to consider other paths like my parents had. It was time to go back home to what they’d tried to teach me as much as it was time to get back to the little house where the Hernes dwelt on the borderland of the ‘hood. I was alive and free to make my own choices… time to move on…

Addiction and you. The HUT Casino.

With the release of Legends packs and now the reveal and release of Evolution cards and packs, there's no better time to bring up what I consider to be a major issue for some within our community: buying packs and overall money spent on HUT.

The following is a repost, courtesy of anonmarmot. Stick taps to him for giving his blessing to repost this in it's entirety.

I repost this every few months to try to help those spending more than they'd like on HUT.
Let's all take a minute to talk about luck and spending money. I want to have a frank discussion on packs so you know what you're getting into because I want you to not be broke and depressed when you add up how much you've spent. Let's not fool ourselves, this is a mode focused around gambling in a game whose majority isn't legally allowed to gamble; this is worth discussing.
You can be a whale of a spender, free to play, or anything in between and that's ok as long as you're ok with it and it's not affecting your life. Some would rather rip packs to use on a team you'll use all "year" instead of blowing $30 on a night out at a bar or whatever, I get that. Incomes from this sub range from $0/yr to at least 300k/year. I've personally seen people spend over $10,000 in a single year on coin sales, I can't imagine pack sales. The game itself is CLEARLY trying to take advantage of people with addictive personalities, and they're succeeding.
Facts:
Here's what you can do to frame it correctly in your brain
  • Remove your stored credit card from your account. This will force you to type in the numbers if you decide you want a pack. This extra time gives your brain a minute to ponder the decision.
  • Better yet buy a PSN card BEFORE you start, which has the value you want to spend.
  • Even better, keep track of how much you spend as you go through the year.
  • Know that even if you pull a Crosby or whatever, your team won't be "complete". You're much better off focusing on your own skills and improvement.
  • All this content will be GONE in a year or less. On average, even if you sell coins, you're likely to get maybe 5-10% back depending on when you sell
  • Think about how many packs are bought and quicksold without generating a post!
  • If you have a gambling problem, get help. 1-800-522-4700 is the number for the national gambling hotline in the US. Here are some Canadian resources. I've heard of people not making rent but buying packs, and I've heard people blow over $2,000 on packs. This shit can get real, fast.
  • If you're having a hard time not getting excited about packs, hide pack pull flaired posts. We now force posts to have flair, which ought to help this work better than in previous years. I literally pay a monthly fee to host a bot I wrote so pack pull flair works better, please use it if you think it may help.
So again if packs are your thing and you're enjoying it and it's not affecting your life, more power to you. I think it's important that people understand the realities before buying packs. It's like a raffle/lottery, sure you could win an Ovi (or a smaller prize), but you're way more likely to get something that won't even help your team let alone fit on your team.

Responsible gambling organizations exist to keep people in the trap

https://www.responsiblegambling.org
There is no responsible gambling. It’s a lie. I no longer feel shame from being brainwashed by these machines. Yet, gambling industry “responsible gambling” programs exist to give you the illusion that someone can walk in and out of the trap with no risk....that because we got caught in it something is wrong with us. Their programs often have names like “GameSmart” or “GameBrain” or “PlaySmart”. Notice what they are doing there? They are subliminally telling people their BRAIN can make gambling work. Well, it can’t.....gambling is an illusion to make you part with your money.
These organizations are FUNDED by the people whose sole purpose is to make money from gamblers. Huge conflict of interest. Oh sure, they will put some resources on their webpage, tell you the number to the suicide hotline etc, but their sole purpose is to make gambling look normal to lure more people into the trap. They have no morals, they are industry. You want to help someone with problem gambling? Why not advocate the closure of casinos and video lotto terminals? When you want to help someone stop using crack cocaine, there isn’t a “UseSmart” program.....it’s stay the hell away from it and call the cops on the dealer.
Do not be fooled by these organizations. If they had any morals they would tell people the TRUTH.....that no gambling is safe, that it is a trap. The ones that don’t believe that are stuck in the illusion. If I get downvoted for telling the truth.....so be it. I am no longer going to be shamed for falling addicted to gambling. I will NEVER gamble again.

[ R / F ] Irl Gishki Deck intended for locals (Semi-Competitive)

After a long time playing around with the deck online, I decided to buy into it. Been trying to find a deck that clicks with me since my That Grass Looks Greener x Wight Deck got hung up after years of usage, this one fits perfectly. Started buying into the deck, messing around and tweaking the ratios constantly. Surprisingly, this isn't an FTK Deck...until the next banlist puts Gustkraken and Mind Augus to 2-- shot
I currently don't run Impcantations in the deck as they've been kind of cloggy in the deck. I ran them at 2 each due to the potential to brick my hand but they still found ways to screw me up. Drawing 2 of one is honestly the saddest experience I've had playing this game. The Zaborg Build didn't do anything to help either, and only lowered the consistency further. The deck is based around searching already, so I don't really see any reason to run them combined with the lowered consistency. I really don't like them locking out the Extra Deck and that support card that prevents it won't be good in the deck either in my opinion. Too cloggy.
Ritual Monsters (7);
Monsters (16);
Spells (17);
Extra Deck (15);
Note: I haven't bought the entirety of this yet.
Side Deck (15);
Ideas for improvement;
Combos that make me supremely erect;
Tbh most of the combos in this deck are painfully simple and rely on using Salvage a lot to actually make large boards so I don't actually get many combos that make me erect af. Most of my combos are variations of discarding Vision/Shadow in different ways and kind of seeing what Ritual I can summon? It's really simple for what it is. It's shocking to see Nekroz branched off from Gishki for how complex it is.

Conclusion:
God hates Thunder Dragons.
Ok ok really though, this deck is surprisingly effective against Sky Strikers and can put up a hell of a fight against Altergeists. While it's nothing meta and the archetype is desperately in need of a Link Monster that can provide protection and an additional search, it's really fun to play. See that combo above? That could easily become a Hand Loop if there was a Link that searches Ritual Spells.
My deck is extremely compact and has a one-track mind as you can see. I either attempt to hand loop or go for the OTK. Very little variation. It rarely bricks and typically there's a hand I can work with. Sometimes I draw all-spells and consider why I'm playing the deck, but it's infrequent and I can still recover.
So what do you think? Is this deck good or absolutely awful?

Seeking a little honest advice on where and when it becomes a problem

I gamble a lot, and I’m gonna try to make this easy to understand and maybe find some sort of baseline... Gambling is my “hobby or past-time” entirely based on where I’ve relocated now, never play online don’t bet etc not something I did much before ... I was telling someone about how much I spent a week just gambling alone and it’s at least 40% of my income if not more sometimes. They seemed very alarmed. Sometimes it’s balanced out so I don’t see an issue. Sometimes I literally throw my paycheck away within hours. But usually I had fun and if I did then I consider even that a “win” I haven’t run into any kind of financial difficulty other then I really do not even try to save money now, occasionally I have asked for extra money solely to gamble not expecting a return....i have more money then I have ever had but I never saved before this either, I run my own business and don’t even want to do the math tbh but everything’s always taken care of and the rest is basically wasted. I mean yes there’s ups, but it just feeds the cycle. For me, I feel at this point I could kind of take it or leave it especially given the frequency, building up a tolerance in a way lol... but my SO uses “wreckless determination “ and often my money (it’s OUR business too...) which I’m generally okay with to just blow through it. I see a big difference in how we just play which makes me think he is or is becoming addicted like where it could lead to problems etc. Especially at the end of the night. It can be fun generally is, or it can leave me feeling guilty sometimes. Btw cross posting for inputs on a throwaway...This may not even be the right sub for this but does anyone here know when for them it was more of an addictive behavior and became harmful or a problem and not just a past time? I feel like I may not be seeing so clearly so any insight would be so much appreciated! I do have an understanding of addiction, and after about a year and half of this gambling thing am starting to wonder about my own patterns, I see gambling help hotline numbers everywhere and don’t feel like I need counseling on it, but when did you guys know it was a problem... or not a hobby... or had a bad impact? I’m probably blinded now and honestly don’t even know what I’d do with my free time If I wasn’t gambling, and still lived In this area. I’ve just sort of accepted that and don’t see it spiraling....Thank you for reading this and for any insight you might have for me.

We need less restrictions on Casinos/Gambling (only regulate for game quality/ethics) and require restrictions on bad wealth gamblers.

I don't know how it is in other places, but in about most states and most countries (even secular "liberal" countries), gambling in any form is practically illegal. I'm not a lawyer but here's some examples. To obtain an Ohio Gambler's license, you need to vouch 250 MILLION dollars in investment towards your casino. Even a "gambling friendly" state like Louisiana mandates $75,000 for a gambling operators license on a river boat. Nevada is known for gambling but typically requires 1 million dollars in investment at least for a basic plaza casino.

I think with the advent of the internet, computers, and more technology, gambling regulations should be easier than ever. I think for a small say 1,500 sq foot facility with 50 machines should only have to pay $1,000 refundable deposit (insurance against casino insolvency) and a $5,000 license filing fee to create a casino. I think that most communities should not be allowed to stop a casino from opening in their town (the exception would be if the population has too much poverty). The state should of course use statistics about maximum bets allowed on the machines with strict enforcement of publicly posting casino odds, maximum bets allowed, and other important information with multiple copies across the facility.

To keep it simple I think:

Casinos/Gambling should only be required to do 4 things:
  1. Have their machines sealed and inspected by the city/county/and state authorities
  2. Have their odds of the machines placed on each machine with disclaimers along with a hotline report number for casino violations.
  3. The casino has to place deposits to the government to cover the event of a casino being insolvent from too many bad/too big of bets. The state should calculate maximum odds allowed/payouts.
  4. Proof of solvency and strictly follow guidelines for machines/etc.

For consumers/gamblers:

  1. Have a government ID (passport, state id, etc.) and be at least 19 years old
  2. Proof of good finances (bank statements, total debts, main expenses) and the state should have a gambling limit cap that's appropriate. Example: Income is $50,000, the state limits your monthly gambling expenses to $300 a month. Income of $500,000 a year would possibly warrant a $6,000/month gambling cap.
  3. Bar people under 125% the poverty line from gambling, anyone who's filed bankruptcy in the past 3 years, or a debt to income ratio exceeding 30% (not including a house/car)

The problem with gambling assuming an "ethical casino" (no number fixing, fraudulent gambling) is the people who are poor and addicted to the rush of gambling and lack education about gambling.

Any thoughts?

Suggestion for the duel arena

Add some sort of gate to the entrance of where you can duel others with a dialogue before entering, saying about the dangers of gambling and possibly a suicide hotline number. Or better add a code to the gate where you can disable staking for a period of time to help people with gambling addictions.
